Crosley Table Phone
The Model 302 desk telephone was a significant step forward in the industrial design of telephones. The Henry Dreyfuss industrial design team came up with the Model 302 which for the first time took into account what today is known as "ergonomics." Most significantly it was the first Western Electric phone to combine the ringer and phone circuitry in the same set (earlier WE phones had external ringers). The Model 302 was produced from 1937 to the mid-1950's when it was replaced by the Model 500. It is known around the world as the "Lucy Phone" for its use in the I Love Lucy television series. The replicas available today remain a popular design and cleverly place the touch tone keys into a rotary ring to simulate the rotary dial appearance of the originals. Today's replicas are available in Black or Red are well made with a good weight and have proved very popular.
